Jeffery to Celesta in Hold On Tight

Jeffery "Jeff" Moone Jr. is a very powerful witch and a major recurring character in The Hathaway Chronicles. He is the husband of Miranda Hathaway and the father of Celesta Moone. He is most notably for pain infliction spells, something he is notorious for in his coven. He is a member of the Hathaway Coven, and is one of their leading enforcers, people who keep the coven law, and make sure no rules are broken, and mostly hunt down rogue supernaturals or witches. Due to his actions throughout the series, he could be considered a minor antagonist, however in his view he was only doing what was best for his coven.

Jeffery is a member of the Moone Family and the Hathaway Family through his marriage to Miranda.

History[]

Jeffery Moone was born on June 28, 1969, in Seaside, California. He is the son of Jeffery and Beatrice, whom he was named after. He had an older sister named Caroline, who was killed by a vampire at the age of 19. Since then, Jeff devoted himself to magic, later becoming an enforcer of the Hathaway Coven and hunting down supernaturals that harm or do evil, though he himself had lost a bit of his humanity since he is has become ruthless in fighting for the greater good in his eyes. He is of German ancestry from his mother, while his father was mostly French and English. He attended college, and got a degree in accounting, a side job he does when not being an enforcer for his coven. In 1993, he began dating Miranda Hathaway, the two had known each other for years, both of them training to be enforcers for their coven, Miranda was the first woman to ever pass the tests to become one, which brought great respect from Jeff to Miranda. But it later turned to affection, as he fell in love with her. They later married after she finished college in 1994. They had one daughter together, Celesta, who was born in 1995. Since then, Jeff has taught all he knew to his daughter.

The Hathaway Chronicles[]

Darkness Descending[]

In the chapter Lose Your Marbles, Celesta described how her father taught her everything there was to know about magic and his affinity for it. As well as having a prejudice against other species. In the chapter Promises, Cel mentioned that Jeff was enforcing for their coven and hunting down a rogue witch that was sacrificing people. He was also mentioned in the chapter Out of the Woods, and how if he found about Cel sneaking out, he would bury her in their backyard, given the fact that he is very protective and sometimes overbearing, but has good intentions for his daughter.

It wasn't until the chapter Let the Flames Begin is when Jeff made his first appearance in the novel. He met Zachary Pierce for the first time and didn't approve of him dating his daughter, but his wife made him be quiet and wished the two a safe night. Jeff did tell Zach to have Cel home at a reasonable time. In the chapter Hold On Tight, after being alerted by Samuel about Lily's disappearance, Jeff leads a team of enforcers to find her, but finds his daughter ended up taking care of things. He praises her and covers up what happened at Isabel's house.

Appearance[]

Jeff is described as being quite tall with dark brown hair and blue eyes.

Personality[]

Jeff is devoted to his craft and to his coven. Being the overly "protective" father of his daughter, he always makes sure she is safe. When he found out about Seana's threat to his coven, he did everything in his power to stop it. However, he can be very cold, calculating, and brutal to his enemies. He will also not hesitate to eliminate who he deems a threat, regardless of who they are. Known for his prejudice against other species, he made an exception to his daughter's boyfriend Zach who was a werewolf. Only due to his wife who convinced him otherwise. He is also very straight forward and blunt, a trait he passed down to Celesta, even with the odds against them they never back down from a fight. Being the lead enforcer for his coven, Jeff has to be a leader and strategic, which he does flawlessly. He is shed in a much more negative light toward the end of Darkness Descending, as he becomes drastic in making sure Adelaide's magic gets infused into the coven, even going so far as to suggest Lily getting stripped of her magic, which would have killed her. This causes a major rift in his family, an action he attempts to right after seeing the damage it causes to his family.
