Lydia Hathaway is a witch and a recurring character in The Hathaway Chronicles. She is the mother of Miranda Hathaway and Laura Rezza. She is the leader and Elder of the Hathaway Coven.
Lydia is a member of the Hathaway Family and the Johnson Family. She is also a member of the Pearson Family through her marriage to Henry.
History[]
Born on December 3, 1952, to Jason and Mirah Hathaway, Lydia was the youngest. Her older sibling, a brother named Peter. While she was in high school, she had met William Archer, a hunter 10 years her senior, she was 16, he was 26. They had been acquainted since her father was trying to have diplomatic ties with the Sanguinis clan, and William was the future leader, as was Lydia in her coven. They became star-crossed lovers, but when their clans ended things on bad terms they were split apart since William was bound by duty, and he left behind a heartbroken Lydia. She discovered she was pregnant, and she had Miranda at age 17, in 1970. Lydia was overwhelmed with being a mother so young, and Jason suggested that her cousin, Mason, adopt her, since his wife Esther could not have children. Lydia had hinted to her granddaughters in Silently Falling, that Jason forced her to give up Miranda, but it was never discovered. When she was 23, she met Henry Pearson, and he mended her broken heart that she had carried for 5 long years. He knew about Miranda, and the two grew close. They married in 1975, and later had a daughter, Laura, in 1976. She never wanted to tell either of her children that they were related, as it would break her heart even more since she believed she failed as a mother. In 1987, after the death of her father, she became the Elder of the coven, and Laura had mentioned that her mother became more stern and distant afterward She became closer to her mother Mirah, who helped her lead the coven. She also became close to her ancestor, Francis, and it was her idea to put his daughters' souls into her unborn granddaughters since she knew they would be kept safe from the threat coming. Her husband passed away in 2005, causing Lydia to once again sink into grief, she left Seaside with her mother, and moved to Colorado, however, she was very close to her granddaughter Lily before she moved.

In the chapter The Reckoning, she is briefly mentioned by her granddaughter Lily, She mentioned that her "Nana", was in the coven that her parents also were associated with. She made her first official appearance in Down the Rabbit Hole where she forbids Scott and Francis from entering the coven meeting. In Stroke of Midnight, she lets Jeffery Moone have the room to dicsuss why he requested a meeting of the entire coven. However, chaos erupts when Samuel and Jeffery get into a fight over Lily and her relations with Scott. Everything ends horribly, with her own daughter cutting ties with the Hathaway coven, along with several others including Francis. Francis tells her this is the darkest day in the coven's history, but she told him to leave.
In the chapter Just the Start, she briefly appears during her granddaughters' graduation from Franklin High School. Later on in Fever Dream, she visits the site where Seana was being transferred from and asked Orion what he was doing to which he replied he just wanted to speak to Seana one last time before he left. Afterwards, she then returns to Colorado with her mother Mirah.

She was described as being in her early 60's, her once blonde hair now turning gray at the roots. She also has ice blue eyes that show no warmth in them. Scott also described her as being a "crone".
Personality[]
Having an aura of authority around her, Lydia is a no-nonsense witch who takes her role seriously as the leader of the Hathaway Coven. She has shown to be against witches having relations with vampires, a topic her and her daughter Laura butt heads on. However, she is tolerant of her ancestor Francis being a part of their coven but does exclude him from a majority of their affairs. She can be cold and calculating, and due to her being stuck in a certain way of thinking, she has a strained relationship with her daughter. However, she does care for her family and even snapped at Jeffery who insulted her granddaughter's relationship with Scott even when she herself didn't not support it. This coldness however, developed after the loss of her husband according to her daughter Laura. Since then, the two have clashed on several things.
